Review Section
- "It's little wonder that at the end of 3 days of hammering in Halo 2, I want to destroy everyone. Having completed the game on heroic diffuciulty, this relentless exercise in carnage and destruction is finally over."
- ******* SPOILERS START ******* "The First chapter is almost a carbon copy of the original game's opening level, The Pillar of Autumn. This time, the fleet defending Earth comes under attack. MC and Sergeant Johnson must reclaim their space-bound manor from the Covenant. Earth itself is also very much under threat, for the next two levels atleast." ******* SPOILERS SLUT *******
- "The immense concrete metropolis of New Mombassa is the staging ground for some insane street-tostreet fighting- like Stalingrad with seven-foot tall alien Nazis"
- "The in-game dialogue is witty, intelligent, and varied. You rarely hear the same line twice."
- "Enemy AI is just as sharp as their ugly forked jaws. Elites are way more ferocious than in the original Halo, and they are just as unpredictable. Almost all of them now carry plasma swords as their secondary weapons. They've become a new definition of pain on Legendary mode."
- "The AI is extremly sophisticated. It's almost as much fun watching two groups of enemies fight each other as it is taking part in the genocidal royal rumble. Three-way battles are so unpredictable that each play through is a totally unique experience."
- "In terms of plot, it doesn't fare so well, deliberately asking more convoluted questions without answering any from the first game. Instead, it prefers to set the stage for the inevitable Halo 3."
- ******* SPOILERS START ******* "But there's plenty of Halo 2 to get through before we stat thinking about Halo 3. 15 massive levels to be exact, 5 more than the original. Okay, so none of the levels are as lengthy as Assault on the Control Room, but that's a good thing in my book. Most take 60-90 minutes to complete on heroic, and there's no repetition or backtracking at all, from start to finish ."
******* SPOILERS SLUT *******
- Hard disk caching means you'll never have to watch a loading screen mid-level.
- There are automatic checkpoints... They are fairly frequent and paced intuitively after every majoy battle.
- "Perhaps most significant of all is the brand new ability to field up to 8 different teams in a single battle. This won't work in obvious two-team game modes like CTF and Assault, but give it a try in modes like oddball or hill.
Bonus Info Section
- "Vehicle damage can be caused by crashing into things as well as by being shot by weapons"
- "Halo 2 is constantly making reference to stuff that happened in the halo novelisations."
- "Halo 2 uses the Havok 2 physics engine, as seen in Psi-Ops"
- "Elites and grunts are happy to climb up onto debris to get a vantage point over you. They'll also jump over huge obstacles with their evil alien bloodluse"
- You can play oddball in fiesta mode with random weapons...
- Hijacking... "The faster you tap the B button, the quicker the hatch will open and the quicker its pilot will be out of his ear."
- "Although it's still possible to do warthog jumps by piling grenades underneath them, most levels have invisible ceilings to stop them going to high."
- There's no ATV, no rocket-hog, and no artic-hog.
