XBAND

The XBAND system by Catapult Entertainment Inc. was a modem for the Genesis.

All you had to do to be able to play against others online, was to insert the XBAND in the cart clot, insert the game in the XBAND and turn the Genesis on. (of course it was only certain games that supported the modem, which had to be plugged into a regular phone line)

With the modem connected, you could receive and send email from anyone connected to the internet Also, the system would find an opponent for you to play in a certain game, or you could search for a friend yourself. The only thing you could not do was browse the net (as no browser was released)

Games such as Madden, NBA Live, Street Fighter, Mortal Combat and so on supported the XBAND, and gamers could enjoy challegin friends around the nation without the hassles of a setting up a PC.

XBAND carried a $19.99 MSRP and a two-tiered pricing for subscription fees of either $4.95/month for 50 credits or $9.95/month for unlimited play. The first month on the XBAND Network was free and play unlimited.
