Virtual Boy - White Box
In Japan, when retailers were given countertop display units, they got a Virtual Boy (to put in the display unit) packed in a very cool “mosaic” patterned box - very unique, and really nice. Nintendo USA, however, wasn’t quite as generous. The box they gave retailers was a plain white box, marked simply:
VUE S RA
VIRTUAL BOY W/O SOFTWARE
FOR INTERACTIVE DISPLAY
MADE IN JAPAN
The same marking is on four sides of the box. Inside the flaps is printed:
VUE-S-RA-USA
As noted on the box, there was no software packed into this box. Also, there was no battery case, for obvious reasons – the unit was intended to be used in a display, with an AC adapter (not included either).
Strangely, though, the flat cardboard packing piece (if you’ve owned a VB in original packing, you know the piece) is the standard retail one, offering:
“GET SIX FREE DURACELL BATTERIES – JUST REGISTER THIS PRODUCT BY CALLING….”
Retailers could however, probably not, register these units, even if they wanted to.
