Scener som den store opera og verdens ødelæggelse gav nye perspektiver, der især i vesten brød grænserne for, hvad et videospil kunne tillade sig. Mindre end et år senere kom Square med Chrono Trigger, og genren havde endelig forplantet sig i USA.
