MegaDrive Aiwa CSD-G1M

The Aiwa CSD-G1M was manufactured and released by Japanese electronics company Aiwa in October of 1994. The unit was basically a ghetto blaster, being able to play CDs, radio and tape - except from the fact that it also featured the option to function as a "portable" Mega Drive. Although it meant a bit of fumbling a 32X could also be used with this unit. Mega CD games could be played using the CD player.

The Mega Drive part of the units was attached at the bottom, and on the back connected to the ghetto blaster itself via a serial cable. The attachable Mega Drive contained a cartridge port on the front, two joy-pad connecters, a reset button and the AV out port.

Included in the packaging was a custom blue coloured joy-pad. The CSD-G1M also featured a karaoke function. It is rumoured that the unit was brought to Europe for a short period of time, but there are no records of this and other then that the unit was definitely not released outside of Japan. It is unknown how many units were produced.
